Beautiful rosewood marquetry chest of drawers / commode, bronze ornamentation, thick grey marble on top. Opens with 3 large drawers. Parisian 18th century production circa 1780.
It bears the stamp of CM Magnien, Claude Mathieu Magnien (1741-1829) received master on April 17 1771. Claude Martin Magnien worked successfully until the Empire. Towards the end of the reign of Louis XVI, this manufacturer carried out some work for the furniture of the Crown.
Very elegant piece of furniture, perfect proportions.
In excellent condition. Our cabinet maker has just renewed the varnish in a traditional way. Curiously, the stamp has been scratched, but it is well recognizable on the picture the letters of MAGNIEN and the small stars between C, M and MAGNIEN. This attempt is not new and given the color of the wood probably was made during 18th century, under the revolution ?
