French antique Empire mahogany chest of drawers / commode, blue Turquin marble on top, ormolu (mercury gilt bronze) decoration. France, early 19th century circa 1820.
It opens by 5 drawers including one hidden in the bottom part.
High-end production, beautiful materials (Cuban mahogany, Turquin marble, much finely chiseled bronze ornamentation) : this piece of furniture is probably the work of some great parisian cabinetmaker - Jacob, probably - together with a talented bronze maker such as Thomire.
In excellent condition. Varnished using traditional technique by our cabinetmaker. Original marble unbroken, fresh ormolu gilt. Superb.
