Large mahogany veneered psyche mirror, ormolu decoration French Empire period, early 19th century circa 1810.
High quality production, not stamped but very close to Jacob Freres or Marcion (probably made by one of the two).
Created in late 18th century, psyche mirrors allowed ladies to see herselves full-length. Psyches were particularly fashionable under French Consulate, Empire and Restoration periods. The imperial residences such as Fontainebleau or Compiegne were full of it.
Our psyche is in excellent condition : new varnish made in a traditional way, finely chiseled bronzes, fresh mercury gilt(ormolu).
