Royalist engraving / historical souvenir, early 19th century. Set into its original gold leaf gilt wood frame with fleur-de-lis in the corners. This is a portrait of Marie Therese of France, Duchess of Angouleme and Dauphine of the Kingdom of France, dressed in antique style as Flore.
Eldest daughter of the King of France Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette and titled Madame Royale, Marie Therese of France had a happy childhood until the Revolution which plunged her destiny into tragedy. Sole survivor of the royal family, the orphan of the Temple went into exile under the Directory. Taken in by her family, she finally married the Duke of Angouleme, thus becoming daughter of the new king and Dauphine by marrying her first cousin, eldest son of Charles X.
That subject is rare, the fleur-de-lis frame is beautiful.
In good condition. The gold leaf gilt has been cleaned by our gilder.
Frame : 53cm x 41cm
