Beautiful pair of mahogany Etruscan-style chairs, Consulate period, early 19th century circa 1800.
That model was created around 1800 for the Tuileries Palace, then installed in 1807 in Fontainebleau in a Prince apartment. (Bibliographie Jean Pierre Samoyault, French Consulate and Empire, Furniture fig. 115 page 66). Our chairs are similar ; they are even a richer model with the lion claws-shapes front feet.
Nor our chairs are stamped, neither those of the Tuileries. Nevertheless the finish perfection, the line and the perfect proportions, are very close to Jacob Frères productions.
They are in excellent condition ; old restorations and small accidents (claws). New varnish, chairs covered with a beautiful stripped silk from Lelièvre. Horsehair trim on strap.
Beautiful collector, rare model and very sophisticated, the kind of seat you can find in major collections such as the Marmottan Museum in Paris
