Outstanding ormolu and white marble clock, allegory of shipping trade with the Levant.
The dial is carried by a sailboat loaded with goods and bales, a Turkish boatman facing the goddess of Fortune on a cornucopia, supporting a frame with Roman emperor and a parchment, a putti pulling a rope to go up the anchor.
End of Louis XV period, 18th century circa 1760-70. The structure of the clock with its boat and the characters is Louis XV while the base decoration features Louis XVI style.
Stunning, spectacular and rare piece. Mercury gilt and carving quality are excellent. Our clock is probably a work of the famous bronzier Robert Osmond.
It is in very good condition, original wire movement, revised by our watchmaker and working perfectly. Complete with his key. Mercury gilt is fresh and well preserved.
