Outstanding ormolu clock, allegory of shipping trade with the Levant.
The dial is carried by a sailboat loaded with goods and bales, a Turkish boatman facing the goddess of Fortune on a cornucopia, supporting a frame with young Louis XVI portrait, a putti pulling a rope to go up the anchor.
Early Louis XVI period, 18th century circa 1775. The structure of the clock with its boat and the characters is Louis XV while the base decoration features Louis XVI style.
Stunning, spectacular and rare piece. Mercury gilt and carving quality are excellent. Our clock is probably a work of famous French bronze maker Robert Osmond.
It is in very good condition, original wire movement that seems to work, to be revised once delivered. Complete with its key. Mercury gilt is fresh and well preserved.
