Precious rosewood and violet marquetry semainier. Ormolu and pink marble. Louis XVI period, JP Dusautoy & JME stamps, circa 1780.
Very elegant model and excellent quality of execution, our semainier opens with 6 drawers (1 for each day of the week and a larger (double size) for the weekend!).
Jean-Pierre Dusautoy, born in 1751 and Master in 1779, was established rue de Charonne in Paris. He began his career at the end of the Louis XV period and was specialized in small tables and marquetry furnitures. At the end of Louis XVI period Dusautoy went to mahogany veneer.
King Gustav III purchased two Dusautoy secretaries for Stockholm Palace, as well as furniture for the Drottningholm Palace. There is also a small mahogany table at the Jacquemart-André Museum in Paris.
Beautiful furniture in excellent condition ; our semainier was fully restored by our cabinetmaker. The bronzes are gilt with fine gold and its marble is intact.
