Empire mahogany writing desk and commode, rare consistent set of two pieces of furniture for a bedroom, early 19th century production circa 1810.
Beautiful Santo Domingo mahogany veneer (a little lighter than the usual Cuban mahogany), finely chiseled ormolu decoration - mercury gilt bronze with a matt and shiny finish, luxurious blue Turquin marble on top.
The chest of drawers opens with 4 drawers. The inside of the writing desk shows a lot of small drawers ; it kept its original leather.
Beautiful Parisian refined production, sophisticated finish, probably the work of Jacob Desmalter or Charles Lemarchand ; our pieces are not stamped, so it is difficult to make a 100% bet on which of the two French cabinetmakers ; the ormolu ornamentation is probably the work of a great bronzemaker like Thomire.
Rare set to find, in excellent condition.
