Stunning mahogany and gilt bronze (ormolu) Empire console, early 19th century circa 1805-1810.
Its mercury mirror, the quality of its bronzes and the use of the luxury Portor marble tell our console is a high-end production.
The outstanding bronze decoration is undoubtedly the work of Pierre-Philippe Thomire after models of Percier and Fontaine (several consoles of Thomire Duterme in the national collections and French Imperial palaces that are very close to our piece).
Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843) is one of the most remarkable bronze makers of his generation. Under the Empire, he raised this profession to its highest level of quality ; meanwhile in the early 19th century he created an industrial company whose influence was European. He retired in 1823.
Superb piece of furniture in excellent condition, new varnish, mercury gilt bronzes well preserved. Some small spots on the mercury mirror. Portor marble was repaired (not very visible given Portor marble pattern).
Beautiful collector, rare offer.
