Louis XV marquetry commode / chest of drawers. Amaranth & rosewood veneer, rich ormolu decoration. France, circa 1760.
Very elegant, perfectly proportioned, it is a beautiful model. Not surprisingly, it bears the signature of a major Parisian cabinetmaker François-Etienne Reizell.
François-Etienne Reizell, French cabinet maker of German ancestry, used to work in Paris - France and was received master cabinetmaker on 29th February 1764. In 1767 he was appointed cabinetmaker of the Prince de Condé (Louis-Joseph de Bourbon, eighth Prince de Condé).
François Reizell made several delicate pieces of furniture for the castles of Chantilly, Vilgénis and the Palais Bourbon in Paris. It also has famous clients such as the Prince of Revel, Marquise de Lafayette, the Duke of Luynes.
Our beautiful chest of drawers is in excellent condition. It was restored by our cabinetmaker. There are no accident to report. Bronzes gilt is very fresh (re-gilt with fine gold in the 19th century / early 20th century).
