Small mahogany chest of drawers, lateral opening, Louis XVI period, Parisian work - late 18th century.
Finely chiseled and gilt bronze decoration (ormolu).
Our furniture is rare because of its size and its unusual openings. The drawers on the facade are factitious, bronzes locks entrances are there for decoration only. The opening is on the right side : 3 side drawers with gilt bronze rings, one on the top, the other two hidden behind a curtain in the middle and a cupboard below.
This pretty and rare piece of furniture has probably been designed to be used as a bedside cabinet, to be placed in an alcove or to range meals in a boudoir (the servants leaving dishes inside).
It is in excellent condition, varnish is clean and brilliant, revived by our cabinetmaker. Some old slits on the mahogany veneer, but no lack or uplift. Very beautiful gilt. Dark gray granite marble repaired.
