Mahogany sideboard or commode, Louis XVI period.
JME and Jean François Leleu stamps, one of the most prestigious 18th century French Cabinet makers.
Leleu collaborated with Oeben and Riesener, and many of its productions are in great museums and collections.
Everything is well done on our piece of furniture : structure is made of oak (while most 18th century structures were made of pine), bronzes are finely chiseled and ormolu (mercury gilt), the shelves with mercury mirrors are designed to highlight precious objects, and the white marble is way thicker than most classical 18th century marbles.
Our sideboard is one very hard piece to find : most dining room pieces of furniture that you see on the antique marketplace are Louis XVI style 19th century productions : the fashion for this type of piece came in the 1780s and production was scarce. Ours is an authentical 18th century sideboard. Being rare and top-quality level, this piece probably comes from a prestigious place.
Every item is original (marble, bronzes, mercury mirrors...) and the whole piece is in excellent condition.
