Beautiful Empire ormolu mantel bar - mercury gilt bronze (ormolu), Empire period, early 19th century circa 1805-1810.
The side parts move to enlarge or reduce the size of the bar according to the mantel width (110cm to 140cm long).
The Egyptian lionesses sitting on the bases are inspired by those from the Capitol in Roma. They were used a lot, on many Empire andirons produced by Claude Galle and André-Antoine Ravrio. Our piece is very probably the work of one of them.
Beautiful collector in excellent condition, ideal to complete an Empire period decoration. Mercury gilt is original, a little attenuated. Complete and functional, a little lack on the decoration (two teeth on the trident of the left terrace).
Length : 110cm to 140cm
