Pair of Louis XVI style sterling silver salt cellars, late 18th century (French Directoire) production circa 1798, original cobalt blue glass container inside.
Refined openwork, a shield in the middle without a monogram or coat of arms, the lid decorated with ribs, acanthus, pearls, gadroons, a pine-shaped handle on top.
It has various stamps :
- French hallmark rooster 1st title (in use from 1798 to 1809 for .950 purity silver) - our salt cellars being an early production in this period, typically French Directoire
- Paris guarantee stamp
- French silversmith association (in use at the end of 18th century onwards) stamp
- French silversmith's Ambroise Mignerot stamp AM
In excellent condition. No accident, no bump, no distorsion.
