Beautiful sterling silver and vermeil circular cufflinks box, late 19th century period.
It is adorned with a very fine chiseled decoration inlaid with rubies alternated with quatrefoils in a refined latticework.
Louis XVI style said a la Russe style, very fashionable among high society at the end of 19th century and in the 1900s.
It does not bear any monogram.
The frame bears the hallmark Mercury 1st title (equivalent to Minerva hallmark for items intended for export) and the goldsmith's hallmark which we could not read. The silver weight (129g, equivalent to the a large silver mug) also testifies to a great luxury production.
Beautiful witness of the daily refinement in use by the high society at the end of the 19th century. Ideal to store daily objects of a refined dandy : cufflinks, signet ring, watch and other small intimate objects.
Excellent condition, no dents or accidents. Rubies have not been tested by a jeweler ; they are assumed as authentical (most probably).
Height : 3cm
Diameter : 7.5cm
Net silver weight : 129g
