19th century French school in the style of Horace Vernet, historical Empire scene. Oil on canvas in a beautiful gold leaf gilt frame, circa 1830-40.

Our very amusing painting depicts soldiers of the Grande Armee, a Grenadier of Imperial Guard and a Polish lancer of the Guard. The scene takes place on the evening of the battle, the two comrades are celebrating. The scene seems to illustrate the French expression drunk as a Polish !

Large size painting, very decorative, ideal to complete a Empire decoration.

Superb condition, painting was cleaned by our restorer, as well as the frame with gold leaf cleaned without any accident.
