Early 19th century French school, portrait of General Foy.
He is wearing the Legion d'Honneur plaque, the decorations of Officer of the French Legion of Honor and Saint-Louis, and the Crescent Turkish decoration. Oil on his original canvas. Original gilt wood frame.
After the work of Horace Vernet, made in 1825, our painting is an antique copy by a follower of Vernet. The original painting is exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts of Canada. The museum of Legion of Honor in Paris presents a variant of our portrait where the jacket is buttoned.
Beautiful painting, a historical portrait, typical of the Romantic era.
In excellent condition ; the painting is on its original canvas without repainting or accident (see verso) and set into its original frame.
