18th century French School, large portrait of an officer wearing a cuirass with a large black bow tie, a powdered wig on the head. The black scarf and the cross show that he is also knight of the order of Malta. Our oil on canvas is presented in an 18th century carved and gilt wood frame, early Louis XV period. Signed and dated Baziray Pinxit 1738 (Charles Baziray ca 1685 - 1755).
The painting is in excellent condition, no repaints on the face, a few restorations on the black background at the edge of the frame. Superb carved and gilded wood frame (Regence-Louis XV period), gold leaf gilt cleaned by our gilder.
