Large Empire engraving showing Napoleon's farewell at Fontainebleau, where the Emperor greets his soldiers before going into exile on the Island of Elba. This scene is known and had a great success by being edited by Jazet after Horace Vernet's work. However, our print is another more scarce version, where we can see many uniforms and in the background the famous horseshoe staircase that we do not see on Vernet's painting.
Our engraving is set into a very rich Empire frame (early 19th century circa 1820-1830). Beautiful, large piece to complete an Empire collection. Beautiful gold leaf gilt wood frame cleaned by our gilder.
