Large Empire engraving set into a gold leaf gilt wood frame, early 19th century circa 1820.
It pictures a scene of Empire period, Regimental Dog, by Horace Vernet (1789-1863). This is one of Vernet's most famous compositions. This beautiful painting executed in 1819 for the Duke of Berry - now in the British Royal Collections - shows an injured dog on a battlefield. Two soldiers - his brothers in arms - are taking care of him. The battle is raging behind them.
Beautiful representation, finely executed. Our engraving kept the original sticker of the gilder on the back.
Our piece is in very good condition. The frame was cleaned by our gilder. Some stains on the engraving.
