Historical royalist souvenir : portrait of the Duke of Bordeaux in its gilt Empire gilt frame, early 19th century circa 1830.
Henri d'Artois, Duke of Bordeaux and better known with the title of Count of Chambord, also contender throne of France under the title of Henry V.
This prince is the famous "miracle child", son of the Duke of Berry and grand-son of King Charles X. He was born in 1820 after the murder of his father, while the Duchess of Berry was pregnant. The Count of Chambord was the Legitimist pretender who opposed the Orleans party. He lived in exile from 1830 to 1871 and remains in history for refusing the throne that was proposed to him in 1873 because of its attachment to the Royal white flag and refusal of the tricolor flag.
Our portrait is a gouache hand colored engraving. It is in excellent condition. Gilt was cleaned by our gilder.
