Pair of finely carved Louis XVI cabriolet armchairs, superb Louis XVI style cover with rams. Stamp of Claude I Sene, 18th century, Louis XVI period circa 1775-1780.
Claude I Sené, son of Jean Sené, was received as a master in 1743. Installed rue de Clery at the "Grand Saint-Georges", he is the father of Jean-Baptiste-Claude Sene, considered as the greatest French seat maker of Louis XVI reign. Claude I Sené trained his son and left very beautiful, comfortable and elegant Louis XV seats. However, he made very few Louis XVI seats. Claude Sené ended his activity in 1780. Our seats are therefore a very rare production of his late career, typical of years 1775-1780.
Our seats have the characteristics of a great master production : perfect proportions & fine execution, with very fine details. Our seats are covered with an exceptional deep blue silk Lampas (Tassinari & Chatel). This Louis XVI style silk was rewoven for the Salon Doré from the Hotel de la Trémoille, presented at de Young Legion of Honor Museum of San Francisco, California USA.
Our upholsterer has made museum quality finishes with coordinated cords and stripes. Excellent condition, fully restored. Healthy carpentry in very good condition, new silk.
Very nice museum quality set.
