Louis XV period Regency commode / chest of drawers, violet wood veneer, Chinese Roccoco bronze, thick pink gray marble.
It opens with 4 drawers, 2 large and 2 small on the higher level. The bronzes are stamped with the crowned C (temporary tax levied to pay for wars of Succession of Austria), which allows to precisely date it (years 1745 - 1749).
Our commode, which is a Regency style production technically, therefore dates from the beginning of Louis XV period : Rococo bronzes and chinoiseries are already Louis XV although the shape and veneer belongs to Regency. It is stamped by Marchand (twice).
Nicolas Jean Marchand (master in 1730) was a very talented cabinet maker during Louis XV period. Active until 1760, he as provider of the Crown and the Court.
