Beautiful Transition Parisian commode / chest of drawers opening with 5 drawers, late 18th century, Louis XV / Louis XVI production circa 1770.
Beautiful model opening with 5 drawers, rosewood, mahogany and boxtree marquetry, finely chiseled ormolu decoration, Pyrenean pink marble on top.
Fake Etienne Avril's mark, probably stamped in the 1960's to increase in value, but it seems very unlikely that Avril made this piece of furniture (his work is mainly Louis XVI anyway). However it is undoubtedly the work of a great Parisian cabinetmaker : our commode has perfect proportions ; we think about Reizell or a sober Topino model.
In excellent condition ; varnish has been made in a traditional way. Ormolu gilt is well preserved, possibly renewed during 19th century.
