Violet wood, rosewood and amaranth veneer Louis XV desk. It opens with 3 drawers on the front side ; a sloping top reveals a leather writing desk, shelves, four stepped drawers and a central hidden trapdoor. Our piece of furniture is meant to be placed in the middle of a room or against a wall : it is veneered on all sides and decorated with a rich, finely chiseled ormolu ornamentation.
Parisian work, mid 18th century (early 1760s). It bears Leonard Boudin's stamp as well as JME hallmark under the belt.
Leonard Boudin (1735-1804), Parisian cabinetmaker. Master on March 4, 1761. Initially working for Migeon, Boudin became successful and one of the main traders in Paris offering his work other talented cabinetmakers's work. Boudin left behind Louis XV style, Transition and Louis XVI style furnitures, high manufacture levels ; a lot of his pieces can be found in the greatest museums today.
Beautiful, very elegant collector furniture, ideal to complete a 18th century decoration ; beautiful lines ; neither too big nor too small.
In excellent condition, completely restored by our cabinetmaker with a superb varnish. Traces of old restorations and veneer repairs.
