Louis XVI mahogany, lemon tree and ebony cylinder desk, bookcase integrated on top, France, early 19th century, circa 1800.
Cylinder desks were created at the end of Louis XV reign ; they are mechanical pieces of furniture, which allows - once closed - to keep the work spread on the desktop confidential.
This elegant piece of furniture shows a high level craftsmanship with refined wood veneers (lemon, mahogany and ebony, including on the back), brass inlays. The locks are clover-shaped, which is another sign of quality.
Lemon-tree veneered Louis XVI pieces of furniture are presented in the greatest museums.
Excellent condition, completely restored with a new varnish. Shiny finish without accidents or lack. The original gilt leather was preserved.Very nice piece of collection.
