Rare Louis XVI style sterling silver shoehorn, monogram JSB engraved on the handle, French hallmark Minerva first standard (.950 purity silver), silversmith mark and Sormani's signature written out in full.
Beautiful luxury 19th century production, refined item designed in its unusual silver version (ivory and tortoiseshell are much more common).
Paul Sormani was one of the great artists of Napoleon III period ; Empress Eugenie used to decorate her palace his his creations : much refined pieces of furniture, perfect copies of past brilliant cabinetmakers. He was famous in France, and across European courts too.
In very good condition. It used to be made of vermeil but silver is now dominant color. No distorsion or lack.
