Beautiful Empire ormolu mantel bar, mercury gilt bronze (ormolu), early 19th century circa 1800-1805.

The sphinxes sitting on the bases are inspired Ancient Epypt. Fontainebleau castle exposes a similar model (with variants) in its collection coming from General Moreau and made in 1804.

Probably the work of some great bronze maker (Thomire, Galle, Ravrio).

Beautiful collector in good condition, ideal to complete an Empire decoration. Mercury gilt is original, a little attenuated.
