Antique French sterling silver drageoir or sugar bowl. Beautiful pattern enhanced with Egyptian women heads and chests on the side, and a much finely chiseled frieze ; handles are lion head-shaped ; fine typical Empire decoration (laurels...). High quality level : the bowl is made of sterling silver too (while most drageoirs or confituriers have a crystal bowl). Empire period, circa 1800. French hallmark coq or cock 1st standard, equivalent to Minerva (.950 purity silver), and guaranty hallmark in use at that period. It was also stamped later on with the Old Man and associated guarantee stamps in use between 1819 and 1838. Excellent condition.
